After years of experience in hanging pictures one could come up with certain rules. As much as possible refrain from hanging pictures on every single wall unless you’ve always yearned to live in an art gallery and keep in mind that hanging a picture is best when a wall appears to be bare without it. When your task involves four pictures all framed alike and of the same size a good idea would be hang them geometrically in a square over the sofa, or in a straight line over a long table, or vertically above a small step table. When using the step pattern to hang pictures make sure to use it when there is a staircase. The best option to take would involve straight lines meeting at right angles. Considering a little regimentation it is not that bad sometimes.

Consider that you have a number of pictures you have been able to accumulate over a lifetime inclusive of old family portraits, originals, prints, and reproductions. For unification it is important to consider framing and matting everything alike when hanging these together. Other than use simple gold frames for 16 prints one friend matted then in forest green.
